August 10 - September 23, 2006
Graphic Noise
The most popular exhibition in Museum of Design Atlantas (MODA) history, features the latest in contemporary concert poster design. The original exhibition, which opened in Atlanta on July 28, 2005, displayed 950 posters from 8 different countries and 145 different designers. Posters exhibited include everything from rough hand-drawn graphics, screen prints, and letterpress productions to posters so finely rendered they appear to be film stills. Graphic Noise was touted as the hippest show in town by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Featuring leaders in the field - Jesse LeDoux, Jeff Kleinsmith, Tara McPherson, Modern Dog, and many others - this exhibit captures the bold imagination and passion for music that defines the new generation of poster artists.
Today's poster artists combine the expressive freedom first realized during the poster revolution of the 1960's with the do-it-yourself approach of the punk scene, creating an unprecedented surge of innovative poster production. Posters exhibited include everything from rough hand-drawn graphics, screen prints, letterpress productions, to posters so finely rendered they appear to be film stills. The bands and musicians depicted run the gamut from indie upstarts like The Decemberists, Bright Eyes, and Iron & Wine to veterans such as Elvis Costello, Radiohead, Wide Spread Panic and many, many more.
Graphic Noise was organized by MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) and curated by Laura Moody. MODA is the only museum in the southeast devoted exclusively to design and was the first Smithsonian Affiliate in the state of Georgia. MODA examines the impact of design on our daily lives through engaging exhibitions, K-12 educational outreach and exciting adult programming.
