AIGA Houston board wants YOU!

We as a board are on a movement to engage our AIGA member base and the non-design community. We need your suggestions and help to maximize AIGA Houston initiatives; that our voice be heard that AIGA is a vital part of design everywhere.

This is the opportunity for the member base to be heard on what YOU want from your dedicated 2010-2011 board and have a hand in helping structure our programming for the year to come. Please offer your feedback by clicking on the link below:

Read the comment cards from those who attended:

"Do some events based on environmental design. Get more involved in community activities [food bank, habitat for humanity, SPCA]"

"Add an event/forum/discussion opportunity to focus more on the growth path of graphic designers. How can they be better, happier, stronger designers. I believe there is a distinct path that leads to being a perfectly well rounded, efficient, and fulfilled designer and would love to see this addressed."

"By and large I like the direction we are heading. I would love to see more fine arts either as "friendly" competitions - sort of like "Loud & Clear" in the past."

"A big reason I don't come to events is because ppl close off in cliches. I'm not sure if I have an answer as to how to get ppl more involved w/eachother...maybe doing volunteer work together, a forum to share ideas, workshops, things to get ppl to work together w/out forcing it. LETTERPRESS WORKSHOP!"

"Idea & reach new designers, fresh out of high school. Do a orientation at campus to new comers and introduce them the ideas/possibilities of pursing a career in design. ex: UH invites hundreds of high school seniors for orientation, maybe do a interactive "on hands" instead of the traditional tour. Also, "Architect school" there is lots of potential there, tons of speakers "eco" & come to the school, which we can utilize to introduce the org. & company."

"museum socials? flatstock Houston? poster shows Houston show?"

"Lecture Series ie: RDA mode"

"Have a monthly or quarterly event discussing "business of design" as in what are people buying as far as design services are concerned and who those people/industries are..."

"BBB version of AIGA/list of resources. Participate in local art & multimedia events because designers also paint, take photography, etc. Besides a job bank for members, also have a assistance w/updating resume, etc."

"Perhaps we can design a program to promote AIGA events in a new way. What if we took AIGA gear adn did an AIGA crash your studio day. Similar to school-style pep rallies but surprise local firms with a visit and a site-specific interactivity. Maybe a quick surprise lunch-time pictionary and a "by-the-way" come to this event, AIGA is here for you!" Lets get out there to people again!"

"Show the Houston community we're a group that's willing to create long lasting relationships by getting more involved with similar organizations and non-profits. Creating a forum that posts all of AIGA's members feedback. Will inform new & old members what's going on with in organization."

"Have speakers that are illustrators, photographers. Texas designer speakers - Woody Pintle, Stan Richards. Workshops on letter & font machinery. Screen printing. Partnering w/non-profit arts organizations, spacetaker, caroline, aurora."

"I think supplementing a membership w/classes related to and unrelated to (screen printing, other more organic disciplines) would offset the costs of membership and feel like more of a value. Continue bringing great artist to town."

"Have events on other days besides Thursdays. Monday-Wednesday would be good. My Thursdays are always triple booked with events every week, so often I don't get to go to the AGIA events because of that. Love you guys though!"

"I remember when I was in high school, I never knew graphic design existed. It was straight "art" "painting" and "photography". Maybe if we extended some vents or shows to the younger crowds we could reach out to new, upcoming, graphic designers. It could also give us a fresh look @ younger designs coming from a new generation."

"Design Archive - new & fresh"

"Having a show with a panel discussion on 'How I did it!' & 'How I got Screwed?'"

"Having a YELP AIGA vendor list"

"Spotlight studios to host socials. Do a friendly competition amongst them on who can host the best social. This in return would then "force" the studios to get involved."
